When I approached the Editor of the English-language daily, The Jordan Times, two years ago, with a proposal to write biweekly columns for that newspaper, I was certain he would welcome the idea that eventually materialized into those opinion articles which appeared on Fridays every two weeks in the last two years or so. The current book, then, comprises those chronologically published articles covering a variety of intellectual subjects ranging from cultural, political, educational, and historical to prevailing controversial issues that formed their substance. My debt to the Editors, readers and critics cannot be listed on a page! The choice of these articles suggests the extent but not the depth of that indebtedness. To my readers I must express my special thanks. They listened patiently to my ideas.
